Tyre Pressure or Tire Pressure for our Transatlantic friends

PostPost by: handi_andi » Thu Feb 28, 2008 7:44 pm

Hi All
I am running 175/70 r13 Yokohama A Drives on my Elan PLus 2 S 130 and my front tyres look a little low on pressure. Hence I was wondering what sort of tyre pressures other people are running with front and back.
Thanks
Andrew

Hi Andrew,

Will be moving to Yoko's soon...165/80 13's....and no doubt will have to find out the best pressures again....

But at the moment have found the following to work well:

No-name 165/80 13's on front 20psi
Dunlop 175/80 13's on back 24psi....tyres may be as old as the car :(

I have Dunlop 165/80 13 front and rear with standard springs and dampers. I agree with Peter that 20F/24R is a good combination and in line with Service Manual recommendations. I tried higher pressures some time ago and found that the standard suspension relies on flexure of the tire side walls. Making the tire stiffer by increasing inflation pressure seems to increase the overall spring rate significantly and unpleasantly.
