Do M16 brakes fit Elan Sprint

PostPost by: soggster » Thu Aug 28, 2008 7:44 am

Hello,

I'm looking to upgrade my brakes to 4 pots, and was wondering if M16 type calipers fit the Elan sprint.

I don't want to go the +2 calipers and disks route as these wont be suitable for my needs.

Cheers

Andy.

Hi Andy

M16 calipers are basically the same as the P16 fitted to the +2 and depending on where there from might have different mounting centres.

I am sure you mean a different type - what vehicle are they off?

What I'm looking at are M16 4 pot replacement kits or similar.

http://www.hispecbrake.co.uk/calipers/UL4%20M16.htm

or lots on this page

There are some good size diagrams on the Hi spec site so I'll measure up.

Cheers

Hi Andy

The Hi-spec link show a caliper with Ford Mounting Centres not the same as fitted to a plus 2 - if you intended to use +2 brackets. You would need caliper centres approx 90mm - I could measure if needed.

Hi Andy,

Have you spoken to "Rally Design"?
They have what you're looking for; I've bought it myself but not fitted it yet.
They have a kit of 4 Pot Wilmore calipers; unvented disks (lighter than vented) but with the option, for a few bob extra, of slotted & cross drilled.
The kit includes adaptors & all of the necessary bolts to fit to the Elan back plate.
There is also a choice of pad materials.
An extra adaptor to suit your brake lines will also be req'd.
The kit is originally intended for Caterham 7's.

Hope to have been of help.
Cheers
John

Excellent!

I've already got mine.

I got Wilwood Powerlite calipers with the 82mm apart bolt holes and matching pads, I also got a slightly larger disk (245mm) drilled and grooved, but not vented.

They are being fitted on tuesday all being well. I'll report back with findings.

Rallydesigns seem to be ok in that if you find the items not to fit within 14 days, and they are as new, they will refund you or swap for more suitable items.

Andy.

(Maybe we'll come up with an easy bolt on 4 pot solution after all)
