Front Hubs

I am re-assembling the front suspension for my S2 rebuild - using original uprights and hubs with new "bolt-on" stub axles and bearings - both purchased from TTR.
With the bearings in the old hub I find the hub slips over the axle so far the D washer and nut engage the step in the stub axle before they hold the outer bearing face. Plus even with the outer bearing pushed in as far as it will go I have 3-4 mm of slack. TTR assure me I have the correct stub axles.
Sadly the old stub axles seem to be the only "old" parts I can't find - so I can't compare with those.
Any suggestions on the problem would be helpful.
Thanks -- John

Sounds like its an issue with the stub axle mounting in the upright. I have been told that the upright mounting taper for the small bearing bolt on stub axle is different from the large bearing knock on stub axle. i have never compared them side by side myself so i cant confirm.

However if the axle, bearings and hub are all correct the only way the assembly can end up the wrong length is how far the axle has gone into the upright or how far the bearings have slid onto the stub axle

cheers
Rohan

It would seem obvious that you don't have the correct stub axles for your uprights.
Suppliers are great at saying the parts are right when what they mean is they've sent what they sell.
Here's a photo of dimensions of both stub axles cribbed from Brian Buckland's book.

Quickest check is overall length which seems to be your problem.

Hi John, I have a small selection of shafts, uprights etc at home if you want to pop over and have a look. I did have a similar problem with my car. The supplier, not TTR, sent me the wrong shafts.
