OK gentlemen, I have another question related to the steering.......
can anyone advise me of a simple method of ensuring that the front wheels are as near parallel as possible other than just observing them?
Cheers
Bob

the 2 strings method can get you to a quite acceptable result if you're careful, see for instance pointers addressed in previous discussions :

WALES GRAND SLAM WINNERS -Again!. More Grand Slam wins than any other country! Not bad for a small country of only 3 million people!

The slight irony here is that elanfan1 claims he is in Welsh Wales when any proper Welshman knows that the North is where the welsh are, where welsh is spoken etc. It's the Taffia down south.

Depending on type/model you may have different track size for front and rear. At least it was the case on my Sprint and the string method did not really work...

This time last year I spent a lot of time with string trying to get my S4?s wheel alignment correct. Despite a lot of help and advice from others here I was never happy with the reproducibility of the approach. If I measured it one day then set it all up and measured again the next day the results were significantly different. That may be down to my care and attention but I must have done it something like 15 or 20 times. In the end I devised a direct measurement approach, measuring between the wheel rims. That was far a. easier / quicker to do and b. more reproducible. After a year and about 3000 miles I?ve been happy with the result.
