Handbrake pad helper springs

PostPost by: wotsisname » Sat Aug 03, 2019 4:29 pm

I believe it's fairly common to fit a spring on the handbrake adjuster rod to help push the pads off the disk.
Am I correct and is it worthwhile?
What spec should the spring be? Or better still where's a good source
Thanks

Arguably it's the small centralizing strips behind the pads that pull them back off the disc. But if the arms themselves don't move back contact can continue so yes a compression spring between them around the adjusting rod makes sense.
Any spring the right length would do but the usual suspects should carry them.

Might be pertinent at this juncture...

Thanks, both. That link was a very useful read as I hadn't quite grasped the full purpose of the centralising strips.

Well researched Jon - I see that I contributed to that thread.
But as I've just said elsewhere my memory isn't what it was!

No research needed Mark, I had it as a shortcut in my browser. Every time I find a thread of use to me I save a link to it. :D
