Plus 2 14" tires USA

PostPost by: nwbaxter66 » Tue Sep 10, 2019 1:05 pm

Do any of the US Plus 2 drivers have a recommendation for 185/60 14s for minilites? Moving up from 175/70/13s and following SpyderCars advice.
However the choices are seemingly limited (but better than some 13" sizes) but would appreciate any insight.

General fast road use, so auto-x Toyos or Dunlops probably not appropriate (:

thanks

185/60r14 not 185/65r14? The 65 profile would be closer in diameter to the original 165/80r13 if I remember correctly.

I put 175/70r13 Barum Brillantis 2 on mine and so far happy with them, they seem to be available in 185/65r14.

They are the only tires I had on the car so hard to comment v others. They seem on the soft side and grippy. I decide on these for a few reasons:
- Available at a very common nation wide chain (easy to replace on road trips)
- European made (Contental sub brand)
- Cheap so not major issue if they were rubbish and wanted to replace them
- Cheap so I can replace them more often (I think cheaper new tires are safer than old expensive tires)
'73 +2 130/5 RHD, now on the road and very slowly rolling though a "restoration"

Helpful
I was originally running on the 175/70/13 at 22.65", so the 185/60/14 gives me 22.74 v 23.98 of the 65 ratio.
I agree with you that the 65 gets you closer to the 165/80/13s at 23.39".
the 65 would give me a little more side wall that is nice.
Spyder in the UK recommended the 60 for the minilites.
Interesting dilemma
Thanks

Nick,
Lucas Tire, https://www.lucasclassictires.com/Pirel ... o_c255.htm, has Pirelli CA67 in 165HR14 and CN36 in 185/70VR14. The CN36 would be a good, period performance tire.
Coker, https://www.cokertire.com/tires/brands/ ... meter=2050, has Michelin XAS in 165HR14, 175HR14 and 185/70R14. Another good, period option.
