Brake Fluid And Fibreglass

A while ago I had some clutch problems and it was loosing fluid. I have just found out where most of it went..... in to the drivers foot well. Thus the sound proofing is soaked and has been sitting next to the fibreglass for some time. Does brake fluid eat fibreglass

I had this problem in the plus2, too. Didn't seem to be affected but then the car was stolen several months later. Hopefully it does and the thief ended up with his arse scraping the tarmac at high speed!

Based on what I've seen over the years on numerous Elans, leaking brake fluid does not eat into the fiberglass, as long as it doesn't soak in for months or years. I would get rid of the sound insulation, I have a removable floor mat with backing in my +2 providing easy inspection to the fiberglass floor.

Steve,
I've got this too, doesn't do any damage, but what a horrible mess. Chuck the soundproofing, fit a new cylinder!

Thanks for the comforting words. I have already replaced all the clutch hydraulics and ripped out the old sound proofing. I will was out the footwell with some soapy water as suggested. Already ordered some new sound proofing which should arrive today.
