Girling cap removing tool / spanner

Here's my tip....don't overtighten!

This is a great example of a heads up about a useful tool and then an actual review. Shame it appears not to work too well but at least we have been warned!

Thanks very much Alex! Incidentally have you given the same feedback to the company making them - perhaps they can improve the design?

Hmm. Mine seemed to work OK. Perhaps you put more oomph than I do into tightening the caps Alex ?

I agree the spanner is quite thin but it did seem to fit - after a jiggle. However, the orange paint has peeled off.

I think its still easier than the rubber gloves/central heating water pump spanner that I used to use.

Hi Guys.

I dont think I have overtightened them honest. I am a mech eng so....... I dont think so.

I have not fed back any info to the maker yet... I might, then again I might not. I am a bid disappointed in the softness of the caps. The last brake one was from sue M and it is a nice fitting item. I think perhaps the answer will be to remove and check every month and clean then re grease. But trust me if the cap is in any way slightly stuck the tool will round off the edges...

A pair of long handled multi-grips used judiciously works for me... 8)

Yeah, I, too, usually get the wife to do it.

With the Webers still on there's not a lot of room to swing the spanner, especially on the brake cap where I can only turn it half-a-flat at a time, but I might be able to clear some space when I re-make my fuel pipes. No problem with my non-original metal brake cap, must be twenty years old and I try to use brake grease on the thread.

No doubt that is what "the cooling Engineers" at raceline would think it is :roll:
The rest is in the boot of the car in case of a smash, very handy for clearing up fibreglass debris & better than the old dustpan & brush :)
