Lotus Elan

length / size of tools in original toolkit

PostPost by: pharriso » Wed Feb 06, 2013 5:13 pm

I'm putting together a tool roll & want to make sure I buy the correct tools.

[/anorak on]

Can some please measure the length of:
1. The Snail adjustable wrench/spanner? Is it 6.5" or 9"
2. The wire screw driver (good for nothing)
3. The 14mm box spanner & Tommy Bar
4. Pliers

(/anorak off]

Many thanks.

Here is some pics of my Sprints ORIGINAL tool kit, note the wrench does not have SNAILBRAND on it although I have seen some that do.
Also the tool bag which is also ORIGINAL does not have Hessian on the inside as mentioned in an other thread, I believe the early cars had that
but my car is a late car (October 72) and I would think Lotus just used what was in their parts bins at the time.

Many thanks Brian, that is exactly what I am looking for.

Could I trouble you for a picture of the tool bag & a close up of the material? What is the overall size of the bag?

I may get a batch made up & make them available to everyone here.

The outside of material is like a vinyl with a slight shine and a finish like crocodile/alligator skin, the inside like a leatherette type material.

Brain, that is just perfect, many thanks! :D

I will work with the supplier & see how much it would cost to reproduce this tool roll.

Will do. I am finding tools on eBay UK & Vintage Tool Co. The tools you bought off eBay are the real thing, I did not bid against you!

Paul

Have you noticed that the spanners shown in the picture from your link to the Vintage Tool Co are Metric. Unless the picture is just a generic one to illustrate some spanners, then these would not be correct for an any Elan (except perhaps the M100)

I believe the link is to a search on vintage tool using the words Tool & Lotus, so it is showing what's left, apparently someone bought their old elan tools

those tools are for the Esprit and are the correct King Dick metric ones....I know as it is my site, we sold the Elan toolkit that we had, I am putting together a few Elan kits and they should be available in the next couple of months, there are many so called "correct" kits on fleabay and most are c**p, some even quote correct part numbers to provide credance for thier offerings, if you are thinking of buying any kit please do some research before parting with your hard earned cash...Dave D
