Lotus Elan

Help to identify the real jack for elan

PostPost by: Pistacchio sprint 72 » Sun Feb 10, 2013 10:10 am

I am lost. The jack company used a similar design for obviously différent car models.
Because people advertise it this Way on baybay.
I see différence of shape in the pad suppose to lift the car. I guess the correct ones are the flat pad and not the One With mettalic shapes sticking out.
Should the ratchet be flat Like the black One or should it be a tube Like on the other pictures.

Thanks for your input, lucky you who still own the oem esuipment.

The first picture looks the same as the jack that came with my car, a 71 Elan.
I don't have a photo but this is from the handbook.

Alan.

looking at it again some seems to have stuck a bit of wood in the U channel

Lots of cars of the period used the same basic design of Metallifacture jack but with different cradles and dimensions to suit the particular application. Here's mine which is the same as the one in Alan's diagram......

If you are considering buying the one in the first picure - it looks to me as though it may be damaged......

That's the 4th picture (Black one) in Cedrics posting, relatively easy to find...

The jack i used to Take off my wheels in order to install my xas was flat underneath.
Hopefully, because it is flat under my sprint. I dońt need a u shape jack... There is no Channel really underneath to accept this kind of jack.
Weird if you ask me...

There is a channel - under each sill under the doors. For this reason the u-shaped jack version can only be used on either side. It's not suitable under the front crossmember.

You can ask for what you want, doesn't mean that it will sell for that. It doesn'teven have the ratchet handle!

Vernon is correct. "That is the Plus 2 jack". Look at the holes on each end of the longs and you will see where the nipple on the jack goes in so the car can be lifted in safety.
