Moving Stuff Around

PostPost by: stuartgb100 » Mon Aug 12, 2013 4:40 pm

Saw these on Aldi's website (on sale this coming Thursday 15th August).

https://www.aldi.co.uk/en/specialbuys/t ... sport-set/

At 200kg a corner, they might be useful in the garage/workshop.

I'm thinking maybe a little plywood base to support engine or gearbox.
Something more elaborate and moving a body or even a complete car becomes a possibility (the +2 might be more of a challenge - perhaps a 5th one in the middle).

And yes, Aldi confirmed the price advertised is for a set, not simply one corner.

Anyway just a thought.

Regards,
Stuart.

Salut Stuart

Great price but I'm not sure about garage use unless your garage floor is perfectly smooth and level. My experience is that small diameter rollers get stuck on the smallest imperfection and as soon as things start to get heavy they don't want to swivel - this is from experimenting with castors on the slate-topped pool table in the garage (around 600kg I reckon). For ease and comfort the wheels need to be big, soft (e.g. hard rubber rim), have roller bearings and be firmly attached to the object to be moved.

Might be OK for an engine or gearbox with a plywood base, as you say.

Good find.

Hi Vernon,

Yes the floor does need to be smooth; level perhaps less so.

My garage floor is covered with old carpet (helps when working under the car), so I have some plywood strips with battens down the long edges.

The wheels run in the channel formed by the battens. Works well.

Regards.

I suspect this might be more useful in our context.
