Hey, Marlboro spent and continues to spend quite a bit of money on that team (Mclaren). He was only pleasing his sponsor. Ironically, he died of cancer. Anyone know if it was lung cancer?

Smoking while sitting on an F1 fuel tank? Lucky he didn't go up in a ball of flame.....he and his mate.

Not only smoking but also drinking what looks like a can of Carling Black Label. What a cool lad!

I remember seeing him up close and personal in the pits at Silverstone at the British Grand Prix in 1975, when he was driving for Hesketh, in the 308C. He was just starting to go out with Suzy, who became his first wife - I remember her well too!

Sadly missed.

Looks like a winners laurel hanging from the roll bar so I don't blame him for cracking open the beers!

I think its schlitz beer .... is it still around?
love the hats they were wearing...
.kinda miss the irreverent informality of the day...now its all corporate blandness and you end up with guys like monotone kimi who just seems devoid of emotion....great driver no dispute ,but boring

That's a Schlitz can, don't know if it's still around, it's not around my place!

Hunt came to the Long Beach GP in a leg cast (skiing) as part of broadcast team, there was a crash right at the start, the guy in the booth says, "James, did you see what happened down there?" Hunt says, "Someone had their cock out, didn't they?" That pretty much ended his career at CBS.

1977 US GP (East, Watkins Glen)
McLaren M-26

Our man James enjoying a Schlitz after winning.

Mario Andretti was second in a Lotus 78

What a bore current GP is............

......yes it can be but the cars are the most sophisticated....next year should be spin-OH-rama without the traction control... wind is a big problem also at 210mph with an 1100 pound 800 HP car, too bad Colin isn't around to solve the problem. He could've found a way to pass (if he had to.... )
The IRL provides the best racing for me on American TV (by far) but...what the heck is Michael Andretti trying to say???
