Hi all
I am hoping to enter a 12 Car navigational rally and I need a navigator. I enter my first rally of this type 4 weeks ago and was coping fairly well but my navigator got very car sick and I was unable to finish. The navigator needs to be able to read maps well and not suffer from motion sickness. I will be competing in my Elan +2 and the location is near Leicester. The date of the next rally is 19 December 2007. No special equipment or gear is required and I will probably request a marked map for this rally. This will make the navigators job much easier. If anyone is interested please either reply or send me an PM.
Regards Andy Hodgkinson

That takes me back. I did not realise that 12 cars were still being run. I thought that "Health and Safety and the anti speed Nazis" would have killed them off by now.
I started my motor sport as a nav in 12 cars. I went on to special stage as a nav but decided that if I was going to die in motor sport I would rather have a steering wheel in my hands. So I went circuit racing, with plenty of run off, gravel traps etc.
Good luck with the 12 cars. Watch out for the ditches

I also thought that these events must have died out. I was once navigating in an Imp (with an ex-works 1 ltr engine) when we hit a cattle grid at 90 degrees to our intended direction; we did a perfect barrel roll (i.e. in the air) and landed on the wheels at the side of the road. Nothing seemed obviously damaged, so we carried on, with some difficulty, as the car had landed in very soft ground (fortunately) but the LSD dragged us out.
I don't believe that I did another event after that one.
On further inspection, the doors had dropped on their hinges, the floor was slightly bowed and we has shed an indicator lamp cover. There were also bruises.
