In case any of you missed it.
Club Lotus has a 2 for 1 offer on tickets for the Silverstone Classic. They will also have paddock parking if you turn up in your Lotus. We are the celebrated marque this year at the Classic.
I may be able to get a hospitality suite above the pits for LotusElan dot Net during the event if anyone is interested.

Hi Steve,
I'm sorry that I'll be missing all of these fantastic events this year.
I noticed your mention of "Paddock" parking, that area is usually brimming with competitors cars. Did "Club Lotus" really mean to say "Dedicated Infield" parking?
Cheers
John

Well done Steve, that's great!
I am thinking that, as Mark (Elanintheforest) said on the 'Club Elan' thread, the most active Elan owners club is right here on LotusElan.net. We have no need of a glossy magazine, membership secretariat or other club paraphernalia. We run and organise this ourselves, through Jeff Cocking's wonderful invention!
So we have it in our own hands to organise an occasional get-together and the Silverstone Classic is a good excuse for us to gather.
Another excuse will be the 60th celebrations at Hethel on 14th September and I am currently speaking to the organisers at the factory to get a dedicated parking area for all Elans and +2s, which I would propose has some LotusElan.net presence (I am thinking of taking one of those small garden gazebos and setting up in the car park). I shall keep you posted.

Just booked my ticket for saturday
I called Club Lotus and they told me this year the lotus only parking is number unlimited ! this would surely be a good Lotuselan.net meetup?
If you book your ticket and give the code SCCLO you will get 2 tickets for the price of one ! http://www.silverstone.co.uk/php/rm_classical.html
You must also call club lotus (01362 694459) and book your car into the lotus parking area

That sounds great, Steve. Well done for finding out the details.
Just to clarify, Tim, I do think that this forum is the most active Elan gang?in the world. The last bit is very important, ?cos when you?re 12,000 miles away from where they were made and going through a very frustrating time with your Elan, this forum, I?m sure, provides some much needed support. I certainly felt a bit ?out of touch? when I lived in Australia for much of the 80s, before the internet world.
However, I also wholeheartedly support Club Lotus in the UK, and its 3 main shows a year?Stoneleigh, Donnington and Castle Coombe. The magazine also has some interesting stuff. Quite recently, a couple of lads have set up the type 26 register for S1 and S2 cars within Club Lotus, and in so doing have regenerated interest in the Elan. Tim, I think that you?re doing the same with the Sprint. With a bit of luck, energy and enthusiasm, someone else will do the same for the S3 and S4, and before it?s extinct, the beautiful Plus 2.
So this is just a gentle plea to not turn our collective back on Club Lotus, and indeed, to support it fully. It has done great work in the past, in the UK, to organise events and promote the cause. There are many in its ranks who are very long term and knowledgeable Elan enthusiasts that don?t want to take part in an online forum, for whatever reason (some don?t have computers!). But when you meet up with these guys at events, and get to know them, you soon realise that there is a wealth on knowledge within Club Lotus as well.

I agree with you. This is an important global Elan resource. And I fully support Club Lotus too.
However, I do feel that us Elan enthusiasts should have the opportunity to meet every now and again, as a special interest group. I see nothing wrong with encouraging all Elan owners to huddle around the fire sometimes. Oh! sorry, not that sort of a fire, clearly
I encourage UK Elansters being able to get together at Silverstone in July and Hethel in September.

Guys,
Would dearly like to be able to join you at Silverstone in July and Hethel in September - but I do have to work occasionally - Thats so all those nice people "over the pond" can get their "motion lotion" from them whats got seemingly endless supplies. If only I could get a company discount . . .
No internet on board my tanker so that'll be the end of my posts for 4 months or so.
HAVE A GREAT ROOF DOWN SUMMER
& enjoy your Passion,
Barney

Just had it confirmed from my "contact" I have a hospitality suite above the pits for Lotus Elan dot Net use. This will be for Saturday only as that is the day I will be there and I will be taking the key home with me.
Alas I only get the suite no catering but it should be good for viewing the action on the track.
I will have to come up with a design for a pass so the minders will know who to let in, we don't want just any old riff raff you know
Just so I know how many people have booked tickets and will be attending?

I have just booked to do the Retro Run, ending up at Silverstone with admission to the infield for the car and 2 3-day tickets for the circuit - ?99 seems brilliant value. There are still spaces available on this from every start point except Aston Martin.
If possible I would love to meet you guys in the hospitality suite - it would be my wife and myself.
Please let me know how to get in!

What an event !!!! More than 600 racecars with 900 drivers..! Lots and lots of great Lotus cars from early 6 to Type 88 etc.. Great moment to see the famous "NUR" Elan from the "Clark- in- kilt" add. Our good Norwegian friends John Haugland / Arne Berg took class victory in their Lotus Cortina......What more to ask for.....!!
