Lotus 60th Celebrations - 14 Sep

PostPost by: trw99 » Thu May 01, 2008 5:41 pm

Following on from discussions elsewhere with regard to LotusElan.net meetings, I have been corresponding with the factory about the 60th celebrations on 14 Sep.

The lady on the Open Day Committee there wrote to me: ?I will help you any way I can as you are just the sort of people we would like to see there.? Little does she know!

There will be no designated parking areas for the day. However, they are going to park all Lotus products on the test track. All ?clubs? are being given an area of 8m x 9m in which they can erect their own marquee or tent and display 2 vehicles. Cars of special interest can also be displayed around the site on plinths. Public Liability Insurance is required to erect our own marquee or tent. I have been informed that it is possible to get Public Liability Insurance for one day for around ?80. Lotus can provide trestle tables and chairs for a stand for free. They will be sending out complimentary entry tickets for up to 6 people manning a stand.

So there we have it. I shall happily arrange and man the stand. The idea will be to provide a focal point for us to meet up, swap war stories, make contact, encourage others to join the forum, see what each of us looks like and swap information. Not sure if a tent or structure will be needed. I can get some signage made up. As an aside, I will be particularly interested to meet all and any past and present Sprint owners, so may have some of my web site made up as signage too.

Any one interested in helping out? Obviously there is a free entry ticket, but I know that won't hold much appeal! I would just like someone willing to man the stand at some stage to allow me to have a wander around though! Also, anyone want to volunteer their car to sit all day on the stand? Anyone with an 'interesting' car out there?

I welcome your thoughts and contributions.

Hi Tim

I am trying to get my car there if I can find the time to get it through the MOT.

Sorry I will not be able to stay all day as the wife needs me at home, she will be 7 month pregnant by then with our second.

But I have a suggestion, to promote the forum which may be of interest, we could all display a sign with the forum site on as below in our cars, if any wants to meet up they could also put their mobile numbers on the sign?

I have it as a Word doc if anyone wants it?

All in UK, or those visiting.

I am being asked by Lotus to make a decision on attending these celebrations as a stand holder. Before I decide I wanted to have a rough idea of listers intentions to attend. If it is only a handful I will not bother to do anything on this occasion.

Please let me know, either via a PM or on here, if you are planning on attending the celebrations (I won't hold you to it!).

Thank you

Thanks Steve! I think we would be a bit sad on our own so I have told Lotus that no stand is required. I have sent you a PM.

OK Pete!

Clue 1 - East Anglia

Clue 2 - The birthplace of your car

Sorry, I realise now that I had not put down the venue as I had assumed that most of us on here would have seen something about the celebrations in the motoring press. Who was it who told me never to assume anything?
