Searching the forums (these or any)

I noted in an active thread a complaint about difficulty searching these forums and a comment about using google to do so.

Most may already be aware, but google is actually a very efficient way to search this (or any) forum with a simple appendage to the search. After your keywords, simply add "site:lotuselan.net" and google will primary search these forums. Exchange "lotuselan.net" with any other forum name to search another forum. Then you get a recognizable and easily readable google format list of results.

Learning this has resolved entirely my frustration with the poor search tools built into nearly all forum sites.

I mentioned this tip long ago and suggested to our webmaster that he might consider recoding the forum search software so that it did exactly that Google search behind the scenes.

Jeff didn't do it, but I suspect that you may have to pay a fee to Google if you code it in like that.

Another handy search technique is to use the photo gallery. You can search on Username or Thread Topic.

Set the view to maximum number of pictures before searching. When typing in your search term, type v-e-r-y slowly, one letter at a time. The system updates the search after each key stroke, which can be confusing at first. When you see a picture you think is relevant, there is a provided link to the thread where it is posted.
