After dreaming for about 10 years, finally took the plunge, picking 'her' up in 2/3 weeks,
Problem is, will it make it from Northern England to home, half way down France? At the moment gathering as much info as possible on your site , to help me with any possible hiccups.

Mike (doesn't sound French at all)

In the U.K. we have AA breakdown cover(with relay), surely you have similar in France?

John

P.S. whereabouts in northern UK,you're welcome to drop in if passing (Manchester)

Thanks for the reply,

I am arranging cover, but only as a last resort, I'd rather tinker on the roadside for a few hours than sit in the back of a breakdown truck for 20 hours at 50 mph,

My week point is carbs- I wouldn't mind dropping in on a decent Weber service centre/rolling road, the carbs or ignition is a bit lumpy mid range (engine didn't fully warm on the test run) and I don't fancy 800 miles too lean or rich.

So if you or anyone can recommend one?

Travelling from Shipley/ Bradford to Calais.

thanks mike
Glad to be born in Blighty or I'd still be saving for an A110

Salut Mike

I was much more sensible than you and waited 25 years before buying my Plus 2 - DHC as well !

Sounds like a good idea to get the car tuned even just to make your trip more enjoyable. If the plugs haven't been changed recently they might even clear up the lumpiness without the tune. In my very recent experience Webers drink more than Dellortos but maybe a tune would fix that. Change the points and condensor, too if you can. Make sure your spinners are on nice and tight and off you go !

I've never taken the ferry or shuttle with my Plus two, but if I did I think I'd check ground clearance issues.

I checked on the map but you won't be coming anywhere near me in Lyon unless you miss a turn or two. We'll have to meet up though - another mate a few miles up the road has a +2 DHC as well; we could take the only +2 DHC triplet photo in existence ! If you get over in time we could meet up in Nantua June 9th.

P.S. probably a good idea to visually inspect engine mounts and suspension bushes.

Thanks for the advice, Vernon, finally got the car home after some delays. the car's a bit more of a dog's breakfast than I thought but the whole family loves her.
Its a very long story mainly caused by the wrong coil for the Lumention ignition,

I have managed to enjoy the car a fair bit until the new Accuspark system developed a fault which took tooo long to find, the trigger collar on the dizzy shaft has a weak magnet, which I only found out by chance -putting the strobe light on plug 4.

Not finding the right problem, made me go down the long and winding Weber road, to no avail, except now I know the carbs inside out.
Anyway, I'm off to the classic car show in Morges, just before Lausanne, tommorow, if you happen to be going? About 1300 cars.
if not I would love to pop in to Lyon if your invite is still open? Maybe on a sunny weekend- I'm sure there's a couple left before the spring.
I have already learnt so much from this site and hope to post a bit more when I continue with the rolling restoration.

Regards
Mike
