Wal,

Your car is almost a "dead ringer" for mine which is 1072 from 1968. Mine, being a little later, has different door handles, remote boot release and central exhaust.
As far as I know I have the only Burnt Sand +2 in Australia and it appears the colour was not too popular in the UK.
Yours looks to be in excellent shape - I'm resurrecting mine at present.

Wal.
Welcome to this great forum.

Good to see another good example of a 68 +2.
I note door handles with lock, original interior and dash.

I have almost finished a complete nuts and bolts restoration of my car.

Does your car still have the original rear Carello rear lights, see photo?

Hi Wal, Mine's 0734 and there won't be many left between our numbers now.
what's the history of the engine ? is it the correct number with a newer camcover or has it had a transplant?
I see all the ancillaries are period for 0898 other than that. V nice indeed. :D
the earlier numbers , mine included , originally had a dark red straight grained dash( mahogany) which i've replaced with burr walnut as per yours, but i have the original still. I think yours may have had the burr walnut from the factory

hello rich many thanks for your comments on my + 2. I have two engines the one in the car is the breathed on original it has iwr 134 cams c/r about 10.6 to 1 bigger inlet valves and a ported head .its a bit lumpy custard on the idle jets but has very good low rev torque and as you say the cam cover is an addition. The other engine is ex mk 2 Cortina lotus and is in bits at the moment I will get around to putting it together one day , it has the best head of the two .The rear drive shafts I converted from triumph 2000 shafts these of coarse use u/j s have had no problems after many miles ,and you don't get rear wheel bearing failures, its the rotoflex couplings that wreck them. cheers for now , wal. ps yes the dash is the original.

Teejay, I think they used carello rear lights only for the first hundred or so plus twos.
Wal, between my number 734 and your 898 thy must have changed the dash from the dark red straight grain mahogany which was original on mine to the more familiar burr walnut you have.

Rich, yes, mine is Jan 1968 50/0173. Don't know the last No car with the Carella rear lights.
Perhaps even Lotus don't know.:-)
