I had a Plus 2S twenty years ago, have now returned to Lotus ownership, recently purchased a Plus 2S 130 from Paul Matty. I am the wrong side of 70, are there many more owners in my age group?
Where possible I do all my own work on the car and know doubt will be seeking advice on the forum. Thanks

Welcome back...

I'm 77 and have owned my Elan (or has she owned me) since March 1969.

Hit the big 80 last month. Still do the same things car wise, it just takes a little bit longer to get them done.

Ah! you see, you are both old hands at this.
I am a newby. I was 72 when I bought my first and only Lotus in 2011.
It makes me wonder how many of us are our age group. We may find out.

Perhaps I have started something with this senior Lotus thing, I am actually 74 and the joints (mine not the car) are not as flexible as they used to be. Round the corner from me is a guy with a TVR tho is 80.

Gents

I am 78 and bought my 26/0538 from the factory in Dec 1963, had it shipped to Vancouver where I first laid eyes on a Lotus Elan -- MINE!! - 55 years of ownership and still driving my Baby - I also own a S2 which I have for spare parts as well as a 72 coupe for a future project. (maybe when I am 80).

We all get a little slower and stiffer - but dont stop now.

Welcome back to Lotus ownership. I am 72 and have had my 69 Elan for about 15 years.

Happy birthday Rob and others!

I turned 50 back in June, have been on my second Lotus for three years, and if I have anything to do with it, will still be mucking about with this car or if not then some other old car when I'm 80 and beyond, telomeres permitting.

Riding motorbikes too but that's a discussion for a different forum!

I'll hit 76 before the end of this year and I had my first Elan in the mid 60s. I've had a total of 9 Lotus altogether since then. Total rebuild of my current S2 including paint only finished 3 years ago and it only took me 18 months from start to finish. Age is only a number ( I tell myself whilst rubbing in the Voltarol cream   )

I'm 72 now, been into British sports cars since my late teens.

My 1st Lotus came along in 1974, I was 28. I still have that 1st Elan. It's on a galvanized replacement chassis since 1984. Took 3 years to restore it back then, and a major repair/ restoration in 2009 after a deer hit. I'm also restoring my pre-airflow coupe that I picked up in 1978 to drive while I was restoring the previous Elan. And if my health holds up, I have another S3 that the 1st owner converted to a 26R back in the late 60's, that will be my next Elan project. Oh, and there is also a +2S project that I should move on, since I am not as quick at this as I used to be and I may never get to it.
