Back into the fold

I have just put a deposit on a very nice '68 S4 SE and will be collecting it on Thursday.

I am not new to Lotus cars having bought my first Elan S2 in 1976, since then in chronological order I also had an S1, another S2, a 61 FF1600, an Esprit Turbo and latterly an Elan M100 which I sold last year.

Hi Ian,

Good to know there is a kindred spirit nearby, are there many others in the area?

Yes, I had just been taken out, my car was beached on the kerb right in front of the BRDC stand at Silverstone.

I collected my car today and drove 80 miles home, a bit of a test as it was the longest journey it has done for years.

Only issue was with the rev counter which was ok at the start of the journey but after about 10 miles it was all over the place. When I stopped for fuel and re-started the engine all was well again but the fault returned after a few more miles.

I'll be doing a search on the forum on this issue.

Or get the poor fifty year old tach rebuilt to RVC, which will work fine with either an electronic or points setup. After all, the car made it home fine. :D Welcome back to Lotus.

It is now farewell from me as I traded in my Elan and picked up it's replacement from Lotus Silverstone this morning, a road registered 2-Eleven.
