New Owner

PostPost by: McFast » Mon Jan 15, 2024 9:48 am

Hi,

I have just purchased a 1966 Elan Coupe. I am not picking it up for a few weeks so unfortunately no photos yet.

I have been primarily a Porsche owner through my car life with 911's and 968's being my favourites. I currently have an '82 911 (a rebuild and restore project) and a 968 cabriolet and a 968 Club Sport Race car.

In my past I have owned an Elise, loved it but no one else did, a series of Alfa's from 1974 GTV's to modern 156's.

I am based in the SW of Scotland and will look after the car myself. So all advice is willingly accepted.

Glad to be part of the group.

Douglas.

Hello Douglas
Let me be the first to give you a very warm welcome (from a fellow Coupe owner and Alfa enthusiast)
From the point of view of looking after it yourself. Elans are fairly straightforward to service and repair.
Enjoy driving your new Elan especially around the roads of Scotland. It will not disappoint

Thanks Clive. Much appreciated.

The SW of Scotland has fantastic roads for driving and in my humble opinion can compete with the highlands. Its different and not fair to compare like to like but we have some great routes here including a wonderful 'C' road with a great coffee stop !

Hi Douglas,
Welcome to the forum. It's a great place for all the help and advice we all need to keep these great cars alive. I'm in SW Scotland too, and as you say, we have great roads to suit every driving mood.
Cheers,
Colin

Hi Colin,

nice to meet you. Where are you located ? Curious to see you have a 914 also - I am picking up a 914 in May. How do you find it ?

Hi Douglas,
I'm in Troon. Where are you?
I'm really enjoying my 914, handles like a go-kart, and feels really quick, but I don't need to be really fast to have fun. It's the amount of attention it gets, as not many people know what it is.

I am out along the coast about 20 miles west of Dumfries. I have bought a 914 and its getting some work done on the floor and sills and should be picking it up in May. I am of the same mind, its better to drive a slower car nearer its limit than a fast car at 60% of its limit. I am done with new cars !

Welcome Douglas!

I've heard of people selling their Porkers due to not being used after getting an Elan, so be aware that this car could change your life!
