UK Number Plates

As it is possible to buy a spray which supposedly makes reflective number plates immune from speed cameras and automatic number plate recognition, is it reasonable to assume our old black and white number plates will not be recognised by the cameras?

They used to say that hairspray on your numberplate would do the trick, then apparently the cameras were redesigned to beat that idea-then people used to say waxing your plate worked
must be a sign that i'm getting old-why not just drive responsibly and observe the speed limits-i'm the most cynical git you could ever hope to meet, but the cameras do serve a purpose, other than raising huge revenues-they save lives
if you wanna drive fast,do it under conditions where its safe-take your car to a track day!!

..theres a way to beat the drink driving rules as well-i'd refer you to Withnail!!!

Purplepete,
I like to think I do drive my Lotus in a responsible manner, it's too precious to thrash around.
The question was asked as the thought came into my mind after passing through three cameras in the space of 10 miles and wondering what the latest avoidance scam was.
I guess what I am asking is, Has anyone with old style black and white plates been caught on camera.
Regards
Dave

Guys

After meeting with the 'Speed Camera Partnership' I can tell you 100% that you are wasting your money on these plates. They showed me pictures of these plates on cars taken by the cameras. The pics are over exposed but all they do is turn the pic to negative and the number is clearly readable.

A word of warning; the new digital cameras only flash in very low light levels so the plates would be useless anyway. Also the radar detectors you can buy do not pick up the digital cameras.

Also certain Boroughs are now trailing a new red light camera that also acts as a speed camera, so if you approach an amber light and put your foot down to beat the red light, you will trigger the camera and get a speeding penalty.

You are better off just driving sensibly and keeping your eyes open.

Sorry :( :(

Jason

Urrrrgggghhhh...
Life is good, there in the UK.
Here in israel, track days, races etc. are illegal. Only a year ago, after a very long campaign a Motor sport law passed, but there are still no regulations, so motor sport is still forbiden.
What we do have is plenty of speed traps.
Thank you for listening

The truevelo cameras take a picture of the front of the car. On my S4 the front number plate is actually letters clipped on to the grill, which is of course set back under the front bumper. With the camera taking a picture looking down at the front of the car the number plate is not visible. This also applies to the specs system as well.

Don't ask how I know

It is also the same for motorcycles, as they only have a plate on the rear :D

As I understand the SCP are not worried as they catch more than enough not to worry about a minority :D

Which says it all really!!! For safety or as a revenue earner?

O.K. I know speed kills but I really hate & I mean "hate" all this "Big Brother" business going on in the U.K.
No offence meant to anyone who has posted on this thread. :D

I refuse to be indoctrinated & will therefore have to live with this chip on my shoulder & hope that some of the points have dissapeared from licence when I return for a further period of work in our green & pleasant land.
