UK Insurance - Peter James vs Footman James

I have no loyalty regarding car insurance companies. Every year I go to a couple of internet comparison sites for my regular cars, choose the cheapest like-for-like quotes and then phone for negotiation.
For my Elan I go to all of six classic car insurers I?ve gathered from Club Lotus and this forum over the years and again choose the cheapest like-for-like quote. Having said this, for the last 3 years I have insured with Carole Nash. However, this is not a recommendation as I have no experience of this company regarding a claim.
I am sure that there are some good and bad stories of accident claims that could be donated by forum members that would be beneficial in order to get a better feel for the ?best? insurer.

Thanks for your reply, Brian.
I have been with FJ for a number of years, making use of the Club Lotus benefits with the scheme i.e. unlimited mileage & valuations. I too have been 'fortunate' enough not to need to make a claim or use the breakdown recovery service so I have no real experience of them! But the opportunity to save over ?100/year with similar cover from PDJ seems too good to miss...
I don't know the story behind the relatively recent (?) PDJ 'breakaway' from FJ, so I just wondered if anyone else had any experiences.

I have always found FJ expensive on the elan over ?200 for an old git like me. Currently with Hagerty at Silverstone as they do a multicar policy very competitive. One of the TVR lads had to claim & they were superb. Was with Adrian flux with the Ginetta & had to claim again Lloyds red star exellent

Matthew,
FWIW, I'm with Flux now for the second year, price is good for my S4 and they are local if I have a problem (handy for you too). They have been very smooth, professional and stress free to deal with so far. Agreed value was by photos and a simple form.
When I rang around the likes of Nash and FJ were very expensive.
I absolutely DO NOT recommend Firebond, endless phone calls, endless unfulfilled promises, totally un-professional.
The test of insurance of course is when you have to claim and thankfully, so far, I can't comment on that.

Insurance companies have always been a mystery to me ? there appears to be no logic.
My brother?s Jaguar is identical to mine and his insurance company is hopeless for me and mine hopeless for him.
FJ has never been competitive to me - always quoted double that of Carole Nash.
Perhaps it?s because I insist upon the insurers formally accepting an up to date detailed list of all known non-standard modifications made to the car, plus an agreed value (?17k this year).
