In 1983 the first Lotus Elan I ever sat in was a red S4 SE fhc, it was being offered for sale by Croydon Sports Cars, I don't suppose anybody remembers them or the car?
I was still a teenager and slightly older than the car...one day I will kick this habit.

I lived near Croydon during the late 60's and into the 70's. I have a vague recollection of Croydon Sports Cars being in South Croydon on the main drag (Brighton Road?) between Croydon and Purley. Maybe on the east side of the road and with big folding doors opening onto the pavement?

Oh wow - this brings back memories. In the '70s I used to take my Elan to a service place that was on the A22 Godstone Road in Purley, on the south side, just near the railway bridge. From Google Maps it looks like there is still some sort of auto business there.
The place was run by a very nice guy, and his girlfriend was the office manager. She was the most gorgeous girl you ever saw. I'd go weak at the knees. But she made every broken Elan event wonderful! Sigh, I forget her name.

I bought my first Lotus from Hendon Way Motors it was a 1968 British Racing Green Elan + 2
I picked it up and drove it home. It required an MOT so I put it in and it failed on a rotton chassis. I'll give them credit, they took it back and replaced the chassis with a lotus original not a spyder. I lived in Suffolk at the time so it was a fair drive there and back
