here's the last pictures of my cars' heart BEFORE the puzzle gets put together: my 3rd engine since 1981!
it's much like with good food: the ingredients make the difference: if anyone wants the details feel free to ask!

Sandy,

Looks really nice!

I think that your Head looks especially good. I have quite some way to go before I will be there.

It does appear that you spent a lot of time on your intake porting work. I can not tell from the pic what type of finish you ended with. Is it a mirror smooth finish, or do you have a texture?

hi jay - there?s a bit of a texture or: NOT a POLISHED surface as it may look. this head should provide (with
this bottom) for 170 brake hp as my mate in southern england says. i?d love to say WHO made this
head BUT he?s not looking for any new clients. my swiss mate (bruno schaffner: renown F-Jr and TC
specialist) also saw/knew what kind of a craftsman this must have been. the bottom includes a steel (forged)
crank (a brand new LOTUS type: same as the casted ones (+/-) BUT forged) plus a set of forged
(and polished) con rods and the forged accralites - so a pretty nice basis! can?t wait to hear her running - better than any X-mas!!!! hope to find out how qucik you?re moving! btw: part of my family lives in southern cal. all the best and alpine greetings sandy

It was interesting looking at historic race cars at Phillip Island. The number of new heads ( SAS,QED) is growing as its much easier to build a good engine with one of the new heads - damm the cost full speed ahead!

cheers

Sandy,

Thanks for the follow up on your surface finish. Just curiosity on my part, I didn?t think anyone was using a polished finish any more. That does sound like it will be a great engine. It does not matter who did the work, I can not afford him!

If you ever do get out here for a visit with your family, please do call or PM if you have time.

Sandy,

Last year while being treated for Prostrate Cancer, my good friend and Master Engine Builder, Barry Sales, owner of PHP Race Engines in Wauconda, Illinois, gave me the opportunity to rebuild my Twincam at his shop, while I was in treatment. When not working on my own motor I helped with other customer motors. I have a background as a Master Mechanic at VW and Porsche in the early 1970's. The difference is this is what Barry has been doing for 30 years and all his motors get dynoed when complete.

My head was bone stock. It needed guides, new valves, new springs, new seats, and to make any power needed some porting, surfacing, etc. Barry gave me the special "Go, No GO" gauges he fabricated just for the porting procedure. With Barry's guidance and more than 40 hours later I completed just the fast street porting. I had no idea it would take any where near that long just for the porting portion. I hate to admit it, but I fully understand how it can cost so bloody much for head work. Add in surfacing, installing seats, grinding seat, installing guides, fitting guide seals, machining and fitting valves, etc etc etc and you can easily exceed $5, 000 to $10,000. And that's the price when done efficiently by someone who knows what they are doing.

Cast crank, 125e rods, good parts, relatively mild street cams, good idle, strong midrange and a 7,000 rpm redline. Results, 157 HP, 136 lb ft

Good luck and great looking components.
