DVLA & giving former keeper info to non UK owners

PostPost by: elanfan1 » Sat Jun 14, 2014 7:49 pm

I have been trying to help an Australian member get the former keeper details of his car from our wonderful (not) DVLA via their form V888. Failure previously has been down to the request emanating from a 'foreign' address. The rejection I received today on behalf of that member cited the fact I didn't appear on the record as a current keeper. So it seems 'computer says no'!

I have spoken with Alan Morgan on this matter at length and he is of the view that providing there is sufficient demand for this service it might be possible to start a campaign via the motoring press (to which he has links). The purpose of this thread then is to try and gauge demand.

So how many Elan and Plus 2 owners are there out there that have what was originally a UK registered car and would like to obtain the details of former keepers and copies of the original log books and V5??

Please could you add your name to this thread (AND THE NUMBER OF CARS TOO - as we are trying to ascertain the total 'demand') if you would like in future to be able to trace the provenance/history of your car. Can you also spread this to any other Elan owners that may not be a member of this forum as the more numbers we get the more likely that something can be done.

Could I request that if anyone wishes to discuss this issue that they please keep it off this thread and start a new one.

Thanks

Steve

I would. (I could probably get the info without changes to Dvla if I got enough motivation up.)

Salut

I'd be interested, too - I had a negative answer when I tried - I should have asked the PO to get it for me before re-registering in France.

I can understand privacy issues, but if they give the answer in the UK, why not me ?

The pre computerisation records are often held by public libraries - so you may be able to get copies of the registration detail and change of keeper up to about the mid 70's

I too have have tried for information from the DVLA for my car imported into Australia and the same BS because I am not a resident of the UK. A polite response and return of my cheque does not cut it. Count me in!

Yes, I'd like to see previous owners of my Elan +2S. I pretty well know the history of my Eleven S2 and my Falcon bodied A-H Spirte, at least while they were in UK.

I'm interested too. I assume the term keeper means owner?
