In catch up mode...

I have tried Classicplates online; VPplates, Tippers, Chestnut who all said they cant do it. I have made an enquiry to Framptons along the suggested show plates line but haven't had a response yet (and I will let you know once I do).

The issue about engraving is where it happens in the process - to replicate the original I think it has to happen to the acrylic from the back and before the silver mirrored backing is glued onto it so that the engraving cuts through the black paint on the one side of the acrylic to then expose the silver surface of the mirrored backing. If you engrave from the front of a completed plate you wont expose that silver backing and therefore not see the lettering - hope you get the gist.

I thought that was the way itd been done.......
I wondered if you could do it from the front and fill the etching with silver paint........

what about not thinking of it as a number plate.....but just an etched sign???

Yes these could be options f its impossible to find someone who can do it the original way - another lost art it appears...

Peter - pretty sure mirror engraving on a finished plate from the rear would have the same effect, would just need filling with silver/chrome (Plasticote Odds n Ends) as mentioned.

Could you measure your plate as I'm sure that it is taller than most. One of the sites I was looking at did oversized plates.

Hi again - the plate size is standard and I just got a response from Framptons and they don't offer the service either.
