Spotted Sunday Box Hill.

Strolling toward the cafe, a sweaty mass after climbing from Stepping Stones my spirits were lifted.
Two soft top Elans, one yellow, one blue, quickly followed by two Plus 2s.
Couldn't see you in the car park, assume you were leaving.
Anyone here?

Sunday was "National Drive it Day" http://www.fbhvc.co.uk/heritage-culture ... ve-it-day/
I wasn't at Boxhill, but did spot a few classics in my part of Southern England
The only Elans I saw were my own :( I spotted a Ford Capri, Triumph TR6, Aston Martin DB5/6 (not sure which) Riley RMA drophead, mk2 Escort, Austin A40, a couple of modern Lotus, but that was it.

If I'd known that I'd have made a bigger effort. All I managed was up and down my drive a couple of times. Mind you nobody else seemed to know about it round this way either - we were out both on foot and by daily driver for a few hours and saw nothing of interest either on two wheels or four.

Drive it day.
That explains the 3 x E Type, several old Triumphs, a Hillman Minx and several rather interesting older cars seen on the road during my 40 minute drive to BoxHill.

Out of interest, does anybody have any good musical references to a Lotus?

I have never been a great fan of Richard Thompson or motorcycles, but Vincent Black Lightning 1952 and Wall of Death are the two greatest motorcycling songs ever written in my opinion.

Was listening to Vincent in the car this morning. Always brings a tear to the eye or am I getting old and fragile?

Vincent as in Don McClean or RT?

I agree I'm not a RT fan per se but it must be said there's something in that song which is magical and not just RT's finger picking style :D

Closest I can get to a (tenuous) Lotus reference is A Day In The Life

RT not DM,

The only other RT song that does it for me is Cooksferry Queen. Great harmonica but it has nothing to do with lotus........

I rather like Thompson and SO wish that MGBGT was about a Lotus, as it's a great song. Trouble is, there just aren't enough songs about sports cars in general. What have we got:

Richard Thompson- MGBGT
Rush- Red Barchetta
Prince- Little Red Corvette (although I don't think it's really about a car! )
All those old Yank songs about hot-rods and muscle cars, neither of which are proper sports cars anyway.

Can't think of anything else right off as I'm tired from a busy week.

My favorite may be "Red Staggerwing" - Knopfler and EmmyLou Harris. Not about Lotii, but Maseratis, Mustangs, Vincent Rapides, and Indians.

I must admit to being a real RT fan ever since his early days round Muswell Hill. "What we did on our Holidays" was required listening back in the later 60's when we went on holiday and was the only thing to listen to on one road trip to Spain as it was the only tape in the van. Saw him at Cropredy last year and as he's headlining at Towersey Festival this August I'll probably get to hear him for free as it takes place about 200m from my house.

There's always Joe Walsh's immortal "My Maserati does 185. I lost my licence, now I don't drive"

The Lotus equivalent might be "If you're allergic to hotness then try not to sneeze / when I roll up in my Lotus Elise"

That's not actually a line from a song but from an article about how the Beach Boys killed car references in rock music leaving only country d.i.v.o.r.c.e pickups and rap auto bling - http://www.automobilemag.com/news/automotive-references-in-music/
