Rally Day Sponsored by Lotus PALS

PostPost by: Certified Lotus » Tue May 08, 2018 12:57 pm

Have you ever wanted to go to a local Lotus club event, but the distance needed to travel back and forth was a longer duration than the actual event. Have you felt geographically isolated and unable to join in the fun of a group event. LotusPALS Rally Day aims to fix that while simultaneously promoting Lotus as a marque to the general public and encouraging owners to use their Lotus more frequently.

The idea is simple and straightforward. On June 23 (the closest Saturday to the Summer solstice) Lotus owners are encouraged to get their Lotus out and use it for the day. Go to a local attraction, eat out at a bistro, go for a scenic drive, run all of your errands, take the kid to soccer practice, even if you have to work use the Lotus as transport for the day. The point is to get as many Lotus out in public on the same day as possible. While you won?t need other Lotus to join you, it certainly would add to the fun to join up with your Lotus buddies for some socialization.

If you see another Lotus on the road, honk your horn, flash your lights, and make a spectacle of it!
Take pictures along the way and post them to social media and forum sites you are a member of.

Ted,

Thanks for reposting this. Missed it the first time around.

I?ll be out and about on Saturday in my Elan in the Napa, California Wine Country area. It?s forecast to be a 100 degrees! (38 C). Good stress test for my new oversized radiator. It?s had it easy so far.

Front suspension is still in pieces so I won't be going anywhere, but will do some work on mine and will leave the garage door open for passersby!

I did two hundred miles in my Elan today-in Friday traffic-since I won't be able to do it tomorrow. I went and visited a dear friend who used to race Lotuses (I am not going to mention which models since some would be able to identify him from that). He is not doing so well now but it was good to see him and spend time--I suggest we all do that with old friends.

Despite the light rain, overcast skies and a slight (one day) delay for a number of us to go for a Lotus country drive I made the best of it by opening my garage and displaying the Lotus flag for all to see (not many people out driving around today) and then going for a drive when the weather radar said I had a gap. Not a single sports car on the road, much less another Lotus! Never the less, I always enjoy going for a drive in my Elan S1 :-)

Displayed the colors in Napa, California:

Amongst the vines.

Too bl**dy hot. Car however was unfazed. I am starting to wonder which thermostat I might have in the car. It doesn't go much above 70 deg C even in the heat. Does someone know the temp levels on the thermostats standardly available?

I'm going to go out a bit later again for another run when it cools down (for me, not the car).

PS: As I exited the garage, I lowered the windows. I heard a sound on the right one - now won't move. Looks like a repair job (been many years since I tackled that). Undoubtedly something with the cable or? I was starting to get bored that I didn't have a lot of tasks left on the car. I guess no real danger of that ever really happening.

Hopefully, test driving my 69 Elan S4DHC several times after carb mixture adjustments at 5 mile intervals will count. I didn't see any other sports cars and certainly no other Lotus, but a thumbs up or two gives me hope that there are some enthusiasts out there amidst the SUV jungle.......

Forgot to mention that I love Ted Taylor's front yard shot-what a bravo collection, esp that Lagoon Blue over Cirrus White Sprint
