PostPost by: Certified Lotus » Sun Aug 19, 2018 7:47 pm

Two vintage Elan's (owned by Glen & Ted) make the over 1000 mile round trip journey to LOG38 in Cleveland Ohio. Two additional Elan's (owned by Chris & Bruce) join along the way. Some highlights of LOG38 included, especially news about the future of Lotus under Geely ownership.

Thanks Glen. What a great video. I guess you guys had no car problems during the trip. Too much rain though.
I wonder if my wiper motor would have held out.

How did Don do with your Webers?

Bob, we didn?t have any mechanical or electrical issues the entire trip, which I found amazing considering the amount of rain we drove in coming home. My engine didn?t burn any oil for the long drives and I averaged 30 MPH. To be honest, I really wasn?t worried as my car is almost new due to the complete rebuild I did 3 years ago. I was amazed at Ted?s Sprint as it?s an original car with no restoration. It didn?t miss a beat.

I had Don fine tune my Weber?s as the engine was stalling at low rpm?s at traffic lights when warm. He fixed it. Which I must admit I thought would be very difficult due to my hot cams.

Glen,

Thanks for sharing this. Really enjoyed the video (and the music). Put a big smile on my face, just like the ones seen on your group.

Would have loved to join in, but a bit far for me.

So I had to enjoy vicariously. But, at least your S1 and my S4 share the same unique, outsized Weber airboxes.

Naury, I?m glad you enjoyed my little video documentation of the road trip. It was fun to drive with other Elan?s the back roads of New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Ohio. The rain coming back certainly put a ?damper? on the return, but it?s all part of the experienced adventure.

Yes, ?our? custom oversized AIRBOX works very well :D

My Elan Sprint used nearly 2 quarts of oil the entire trip, but otherwise ran perfectly, even in the rain. While Glen experienced hydroplaning with his radial tires, my original bias-ply tires stuck to the road without any hint of hydro-planing. I must say, the entire trip, including driving in the rain, was a pleasureable experience. Driving in the rain in the Elan was enjoyable, whereas driving a regular car in the rain would be tiresome. Hard to explain, unless of course, you own and drive an Elan! :D

Glen, Good to know that Don got your idling problem fixed. I guess he's a pretty good mechanic. No where near me though.

Ted, You and the previous owner of your Elan Sprint must have done good maintenance. I'm glad that you enjoyed the driving.

The round cylinder object on top of my crash pad is a powered blue tooth stereo speaker for listening to the google map directions and music from my iPhone. It works very very well.

No need for an installed stereo system that I would hardly use.
