Thoughts from newbie after 100 miles Cotswold drive today

PostPost by: DJW » Thu Aug 22, 2019 9:24 pm

I love this car ! Did you expect anything else ;)

Had first drive in car this afternoon, so thought I better stay local just in case anything went wrong ;)

Within 30 secs I was grinning like a Cheshire Cat. What an amazing view out of the front of the +2. So much visibility. 40 miles later I was back home very happy with the car. So much more enjoyable at sensible speeds vs cars I?ve had recently Think I?ll have to replace seats for short term, as felt like I was sliding off the standard seats on faster corners

So got to 1800 and said to the missus I was popping out to take some snaps of the car. My daughter suddenly insisted she come along. An intended 30 min ride turned into a 60 mile drive around numerous Cotswold villages near me. We popped to Caffeine and Machine pub where Mike Brewer was sat with his production team having a few beers. The Elan got some decent attention and words such as ?immaculate? and ?cool? were good to hear

Some more decent country roads and just a joy to use the slick gearbox, the sublimely steering and fruity induction and exhaust noise. Carbs take a bit of getting used to after years of injection cars.

So finally grabbed a few photos as sun set

You?ll have to excuse me but I?m a sucker for mono photos

And then finally back home.

Fabulous photos, and sounds like a lovely drive out in a great looking car. Days like that are the ones that stick in the memory..

Now you know what a real Lotus is about! Mind you, with 134 BHP and other 'improvements' Jono has made it is more like a S130 so not surprising you're sliding around in the seat. Enjoy while you can.

Didn't Brewer try a cheeky offer then?

Nice pictures... maybe that big Merc of yours (on the other thread) will be redundant!

If market was healthier the Merc would be up for sale now ;)

I could hear Brewer from 50 yards away, the cheeky fella. Sounded like he was with his production team talking shop.

You're making me sad now Dave :(

But, seriously, that is more than offset by knowing that you're enjoying the car and that it's with a true enthusiast.

It seems no time since I was waxing equally lyrical after my very first drive out after restoring it and noting how the raised wings on the Plus 2 are perfect for 'placing' the car on the twisties.

It seems apposite that I should post up a pic of my very first drive too to close the loop - top of Hartside Pass (shame that the photography does not come up to your standards).

Enjoy!!

I wouldn't have thought there was that much to discuss - he says the same thing at the same point in every show.

<walks into workshop half way through the repair schedule > 'What have you done with my beautiful (insert name of car here)' etc

Car and scenery looking really good.Glad to hear you are enjoying the Elan.

As for Mr B and his production team, suffice to say I miss the big Fella with the penchant for orange gloves on WD..
having met both the existing and previous spanner men on that show, well, I know which I prefer...
on screen and off.

Just a tad Mark, but can see where the DNA started. Another 50 miles today with visit to Paul Matty for a few parts. This car will get used ..... a lot :D
