LOG 39 (US Lotus Owners Group annual meeting) took place this last weekend in Sturbridge, Mass (about 60 miles west of Boston). Lovely weather in a beautiful area combined with swooping country driving roads and a turnout of about 175 Lotuses made for a great meeting.

There were about two dozen Elans, including three +2s. They provided good coverage of the entire range, including:
- An Elan 1600 (S1)
- Several S2s, one with hardtop
- Airflow and pre-airflow fixed-head S3s
- A Super Safety S3
- A convertible +2
- A rolling chassis on its way to being an FIA-spec car

There was plenty of interesting stuff starting at with Types 6, 7, 9, 11, 14 and on up.

And the very rare - the GKN Lotus 47D (the only one) and a convertible Esprit. Pictures of them, and a few others, attached.

LOG 40 is due to be held in Salt Lake City, September 18-21, 2020.

Looks like it had a great turnout. Wish I were there . If I go to Salt Lake City, it'll be as a spectator.
Thanks Nick!

The green S2 with hardtop looks like Gary Anderson?s, if so, glad he is still kicking.

+1 on that. His posts here were always very helpful IMHO.

Regardless, from this side of the pond it looks a great event !

Yes, the green S2 is Gary's. He is alive and kicking harder than ever. Last year the engine developed a slight knock which turned out to be a broken valve spring. This further led to a general overhaul of the engine. He got it back together just in time for LOG 39. It is pumping a bit of oil out the dip stick tube so a little more debugging is in the works.

It was a good turn out. I got quite a good sunburn after getting there at 0700 to help layout the photo area and loading one of the Mk IXs and the 26R-clone rolling chassis onto there respective trailers at 1500. There was a goal to get several Mk IXs there and three made it, 12% of the entire production!

Thanks for the photos and update. Any report on the Concours judging results?

Thanks,

I don't think there was a formal concours, but I may have missed it.

There was an attendee ballot with many classes (for example Elan S1/S2 was a class and Elan S3/S4/Sprint was another). Since my Elan took second place in its class and most certainly did not deserve it then I can only say that the process was, um, ad hoc but fun.

However, the Europa 47D got best in show, which seemed appropriate given its provenance and condition.

The photos I attached previously were simply a few of the more unusual cars - on the assumption that everybody knows what the regular Types look like. There were some real beauties in every class. If anybody wants some more Elan photos just PM me. I'll attach one more that I think captures the essence of an Elan perfectly.....

Nice group of older cars! Glad to see a number of them came out for the event. If I was not involved with some racing and a welcome of our first grand daughter I would have loved to join the group. Not sure on the haul to Salt Lake but asking Gary Anderson to come to my place and we would finish the trek together.

Thanks for posting the pictures Nick

Should add anyone from east that might head west to LOG is more then welcome to stop in Iowa, anyone is welcome.
We have a large farm house and are 18 miles north of I-80. Might even spent time talking Loti since there are a few in the shop, barn and a storage building. Also a bunch of non Lotus stuff. What can I say some people call me sick.

I did not bring either of my two Elan?s but I did bring my very newly restored 72 Europa Twin Cam, which won second place in the category. If your interested you can read the LOG39 part of my blog on Europa.org. This is my fourth Lotus restoration in 5 years.

I?ve spent the last 2+ years restoring a 1972 Lotus Europa which I planned on taking to LOG39. A number of classic (meaning old) Lotus Elan owners and I had planned a ?road trip? to and from LOG with all of us traveling together. We were leaving on Thursday morning from my house in Princeton. I finished my restoration on Wednesday night......

My entire restoration is well documented on the Europa.org web site, but for the sake of just giving you the LOG39 part of my ?blog? start at this point to read all about the adventures of going to LOG39.

Looks like a great LOG. Thanks for posting. The map by Province and State is awesome!

Looking forward to Salt Lake City, which will be our closest LOG ever. :D Here are a. Couple of links to the ULOCO LOG40 promo video. For those that haven?t toured Utah, it is incredible scenery; as though Salvador Dali and Vincent Van Gogh were allowed to paint using rock. September should be absolutely perfect!

I drove to Salt Lake City recently, was a family trip in family car so stuck to the main roads but no doubts there are some good roads and scenery in that part of the world. And only 1,500 miles from Austin...

Just wish it was planned for early August instead as might find myself heading there again and would be easy to justify taking 2 cars.
