Thor,

If you love your car so much, why do you want to fit cheap units?

Mine has Cibie headlamp units with halogen bulbs. Can see for miles at night :D :D :D

Buy cheap, buy dear I always say.

Wipac used to do a conversion set for a reasonable price

Hi

I bought a new set from a guy on ebay who sells a lot of car parts for ?22.95 including postage. They are "E" marked and for right hand drive. Or at least they should be. They have not arrived yet!

Have to agree with Hamish on this. I did buy a pair of cheap headlights (around ?25 a pair including Xenon bulbs) a year or so back to get the car through it's MOT test. I only fitted one to replace the rusted one, so had a direct comparison. The cheap one is brighter than the Wipac, probably due to a Xenon bulb, but the beam pattern is cr*p. I am looking for decent pair now... Cibies sound good - or at least they were on my bike.

On a related matter, is it only Lotus owners who are always after the cheapest of anything, or classic car owners in general? I am as much a sucker as anyone, and time and time again I buy cheap, only to regret it later! Good value is one thing, cheap and nasty is another.....

Thor,

I bought the units years ago to fit onto the car I had at the time. (I was doing a lot of commuting and we have long dark nights here in the winter time). I kept them when I sold the car. The Lotus inherited them when I bought it.

I would think they are still available. Try the likes of http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/. They should have something to fill the bill. I think they have started a classic car section.

From memory, yes. They look exactly the same as the units that are fitted to any self respecting mini. :)

I believe some of the Mazda MX5/Eunos/Miata headlights will do the job.

Given that 7" sealed beam units were common on 1970s British Vehicles then would the landrover units not fit? In which case Paddock Spare in Derbyshire do a suitable kit for ?19 + VAT, see http://www.paddockspares.com/products.a ... kit%20(RHD)
