The sunny UK weather reminded me to start the car and check it out for a drive this weekend. Anyhow the car will crank, but wont start. There is no spark at the plugs, I've checked the points and I had a spare coild/ baalast resistor which I swapped and still no joy. Can you please provide advise on what to check, in what order to get to the bottom of the problem?

Try running some sandpaper through the points. Might have some corrosion there. Could be corrosion in the cap, too.

Hi There

Probably best to look up an ignition fault finding guide on the net. In addition to the above though I would give a quick clean to the spade connections to the coil and solenoid etc.

Good luck

Have you checked the immobiliser switch in the glove box if still fitted. Could have been knocked on. Also start at the beginning, do you have power to the coil.

I've replaced the points, checked the distributor cap and checked connections. I do have power to the coil. I'll check the condensor next. I can't see a short anywhere, so I'm pinning my hopes on this.

I had a similar problem a few months ago and it turned out to be grounded points because the screw was a little too tight. I suspect you haven't opened up the cap in your sleep during the winter to tighten the points nut, but I was able to determine the issue with a multi-meter and checking resistance between each step of the connections.

Good luck, and I hope the good weather doesn't go to waste!
