1973 Motorshow car photographs

PostPost by: Mark 1964 » Thu Feb 21, 2019 11:42 am

Hello,

I have just bought my second lotus, a plus 2 130s in Roman Purple. The car was registered in January 1974, however it was the London motorshow car from 1973. Apparently there was a Europa and this Lotus both in Roman purple on the stand. I should be really grateful if anyone can point me in a direction where I could find some photographs of the cars on the stand.

Thank you

You must have bought your car from UK Sportscars. I have seen a black and white photo of the 73 Earls Court show +2. It's out there somewhere. Here is a period picture of the Europa in Roman Purple. Last a picture of a 74 +2 in Roman Purple taken for 'The Car' Magazine. Roman Purple was also featured on the first Lotus Elites in 74 as per the sales literature at the time. Jim

Isn't that the photo in Robinshaw/Ross? If it's the one I'm thinking of it's a picture of the offside rear and a comment about the fact it has a Peco exhaust fitted. But yes, black and white unfortunately.

Thanks for the encouraging responses gents.

I did spend a fair bit of time on line too with no luck. That was when I thought I would try the forum. Black and white or colour anything welcome.

Yes it is the car that was for sale at uk sports cars.It was pretty much as the add described, apart form the interior, which i am afraid needing re upholstering in the oatmeal.

Thank you Tim, that's really helpful.
Are those pictures taken from the book Robbie mentions?

No Mark, they?re from Lotus World, the factory monthly news sheet.

Since there were two Plus 2s on the stand, my suspicion is that yours was the RHD one and the other most likely a LHD version.

Hi Tim,

Thank you for all your information. I think your analogy makes sense.

Do you know where I might start looking for higher resolution copies of those great period pictures? I cant read the text.

The other source you might want to investigate are contemporary copies of Motor or Autocar as they always did good Motor Show features. If you know the dates of the shows, the magazines would have come out the following Wednesday I believe. Check on eBay or similar

That was the pic I was thinking of, looks like it was re-produced from Lotus World in the R&R book
