Hoping you guys may be able to help me out please. I have a 1970 plus 2 and I am currently running new cupro nickel brake lines. I am finding it difficult to identify what flare and fitting I need to connect the hard line to the flexible pipes. I have purchased the stainless braided flexible hoses here in the UK. I am just trying to make sure I have got the lines correct before moving on with the restoration!
Any advice would be helpful!
Cheers guys
Andy

Andy,
Assuming your braided hose is the same thread as the original it will be 3/8" UNF and requires a female nut with double pipe flare.

That?s a beautifully done ?bubble? flare. It?s made with the first step of a double flare. The end prep is really important to keep it from cracking. Buy a good double flare tool kit and practice making them. I do my best bubble flares when I forget to slide the flare nut on first......

Dan

Good info with diagrams here on the Fedhill web site. They are also a good source for supplies for those in the US. No affiliation, just a satisfied customer.

This article give the most usable information that I could find on the different types of automotive brake flares:

If you match the stock flare type, both male and female as either a "bubble" or "double" flare and make your new flares accordingly, it's hard to go wrong. Most of the stock Elan/Europa brake lines I've come across have been the "bubble" type. What type of end fittings did your S/S flex lines come with.
