gauge faces -- what color?

Back with another restoration question, please. Are the gauge faces (speedo and tach, especially) on a 1972 S130 Federal supposed to be dark gray or black? It's hard to tell if they were originally dark gray, or if they were black and just faded to dark gray.

Black
They go grey with time, someone on here recently used baby oil to restore theirs, I used "back to black" bumper finish as a wipe.

Mine are grey, with the exception of the outside temperature gauge.
