Plus 2 rear passanger foitwell leak

I am getting ingress of water in the rear passsnger footwell (rhd car); happens while car parked for a rainy week Looks like its coming from the sill/ rear door pillar side rather than transmission tunnel..How does the ventilation grille in the rear door pillar drain out..? Might this be blocked..? ..is it something else..? Ideas/ experience welcome...Thx..Tony

I had that happen. Water coming through bad laminating of air vent.
I added more resin and matt around air vent under the quarter trim inside car..
At bottom of grill i made sure of cutout in grp flange so water couldn't lay inside vent.
I removed inside quarter trim and sat inside car while raining to find the leak.

Water usually comes in the door. Was it parked level nose up or nose down?
Condition of door seals, rear window gasket?

I think you are chasing your tail trying to make your car bone dry inside. All these old classic Lotus leak from somewhere or other. It is just the nature of the beast!
If you want your car to be permanently completely dry inside the real solution is to just don't take it out in the rain.... :)

Bone dry, sure, but It is amazing what a little detailing will do.

My Sprint fhc is dry or at least it was before it was painted. For painting i took windscreen and back window out. Now refitted with new seals so wait and see if i made a good job. I've got the mastic gun ready lol

Is the water supposed to drain out of the vent pocket or should it be sealed so water can exit back out of through the vent?

I’m not get any leaks from the rear quarter but from under the dash. I suspect it is where the loom/cables come through the bulkhead.
I’m also assuming the grommets are well past there best. But have no way of replacing them with the loom in place (see no point in cutting new grommets) so I have just ordered some rubber butyl sealing strip (I use to call this Dum Dum tape in the past).
Has anyone else used this? any tips please?

Butyl strip, as used to seal double glazing units is like Dum Dum and works well to seal up loose or even absent grommets holes etc..Just peel off the backing, roll into a suitably sized ball and off you go..Never hardens and can be added to and readjusted or removed as needed. Tip: it's quite tacky so dampen your fingers when working it. Good luck

PS. On my Plus2 the major source of water ingress in the drivers footwell were the rawlplugs that held the brake pipe and outside temp guage tube.I moved both from the horizontal to vertical plane..

Could be, but don't rule-out the possibility of a leak at the seal along the lower edge of the windscreen either. It's so close to the crashpad that you'd never notice water seeping past the seal there.

Sometimes leak where pedal box flange is fixed to body.

Had the pedal box leak: fixed this by loosening the nuts lifting the pedal a little all round abd sealing with an old school windscreen aperture sealer called Arbomast : sealant gun tube, non hardening , IMHO, better than silicon and tiger seal type sealants, which stick like s**t and a bugger if you you need to get the pedal box off ..Works well with same advantages on the sill closing plates in the wheel arches..
