I almost put this in General Lotus Discussions, but just couldn't.

Whilst I admire his ingenuity and engineering capability, the car has become another rather wide and rather long so called sports car.
I say this because at Castle Combe last Saturday someone poled up in a Ferrari Portofino (least I believe that was the model, others will correct me if I'm wrong!). This is a two seater 'sports car', a term I use loosely. The point is that it was massive - wide, long and no doubt heavy. Whilst I appreciate the need to satisfy current legislation regarding safety and emissions, it strikes me that these supercars are merely dressed up conveyances for two people, one of whom has so much money!
My XK is a smashing car, but the closest I'd go to calling it a sports car is to say it is an acceptable Grand Tourer. So back to Dustin's BMW/Elise, the epitome in original form of a modern day sports car, if ever there was one, I'm sure it'll go like shot off a shovel, but I'm rather glad it'll do so on track and maybe for the odd trip to church!

+1 on Tim's opinion.
Big, fat and wide is all they are all about nowadays.
Aah, and N?rburgring lap time ...
But it is not regulations. Bling matters. It is people's choice.
Same for SUVs, people want and buy them. A Golf is cheaper, faster, more economical. No, they buy a Tiguan.
Apart from that, been there already: Hennessey Venom GT, huge american V8 instead of big BMW V10.

Personally i think the one below is the better looking...... instead of slapping big arches on (which look so out of place) he's actually thought about it and sectioned the clam shell.... Frankly it looks way better for it (even if the back does look like a Mclaren GTR rip off)
