T9 Tail Housing Removal

PostPost by: johnc » Tue Jul 29, 2008 5:02 pm

Question -- how do you remove the tail housing on a T9 transmission?

I have removed the bolts holding to tail housing to the main case. However, I can't remove the housing because of interference of the shift arm, located at the end of the gear selector shaft, with the tail housing. I assume one has to remove the shift arm, but I don't see how to accomplish this.

Thanks, John

Hi John

There is a split pin that is driven through the shift arm right through the shift shaft. You should use a pin punch as it makes it easier but isn't nessessary if the punch is a good fit.

Thanks Gary,

The shift lever area was loaded with a graphite like heavy grease. Hopefully, cleaning up the area a bit more will uncover the split pin.

This Ebay listing

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/_Manuals ... 0245839215

has the complete manual for the T9 transmission. I wouldn't start messing with the transmission without it.

Hi Dave,

I ordered this CD manual a week ago -- should arrive in the next 5 days or so. Thanks for the confirmation that it contains a complete T9 manual.
