Title: Lotus 5-speed Gearbox - Automatic Disengagement of Third (3rd) Gear.
Reason: To advise Dealer personnel on the recommended procedure for rectifying this annoyance.
Parts Required: B050 F 0298Z Selector Rod
Action:
  1. In cases where the gearshift lever persistently 'jumps' out of third (3rd) gear, it is recommended a check be made to ensure that the lever is NOT fouled in any way (i e. by the trim, grommet or facia panel). If a foul is apparent, then it should be rectified.
  2. If the fault is still persistent ONLY AFTER 1,250 miles (2,000 km.), it is recommended that the selector rod be changed for the above part. This latter selector rod has deeper detent grooves, thus allowing a more positive selection of third gear.
